Ulrich Hommel, Leader of the XOLAS Risk Management Practice, delivered a workshop to business school deans on how to organize risk management effectively. It was organized by EFMD Global as part of their “Online Workshops for Deans” series. The following aspects received particular attention:
- How to develop and foster a school-wide risk culture.
- How to bring the concept of risk appetite to life in strategizing and operations.
After exploring the meaning of these concepts in general, participants linked them to the state-of-the-art tools of risk management as they are deployed today. Participants furthermore discussed their limitations and workable steps towards overcoming them with reasonable effort. The workshop closed with the development of a change agenda that keeps risk management in step with the evolving risk landscape and able to address disruptive threats where likelihoods and impact are difficult to quantify.
